Contents Page Evaluation

Whilst designing my contents page, I made sure that I was looking at other magazines for ideas and ways in which I should lay out my page. The two I focused on during the making of the page was Kerrang and Billboard. I got so many completely different ideas from each magazine. Even though Kerrang isn’t the same genre as my magazine was, it was really good to look at because it is a very popular magazine and has a very clear and well planned format. It has quite a small colour scheme but the few colours that are used are often very bold and bright, so I took that idea because I always wanted my magazine to have quite a limited colour scheme as I wanted the attention to be more on my images of each page. Another thing that I thought was a good idea from the Kerrang contents page was the coloured titles of the lists of page numbers and headings. I think that the titles need to be shown very visibly for someone who is just quickly flicking through to find what they want and therefore by having them laid out in this way it is very clear and bold for people to see. Billboard has a very clean layout of their contents page, they have limited amount of writing and the pictures are very spread out. I liked the clean look more than the scattered and messy look. They also take out the background of some photos to make the artist more of the centre of attention which I also did because I wanted to show off the photos more than where the models were. I edited a shadow onto the model of Justin Johnson to make it look as though he was in a studio to make it different from the other photos on the page. I also made all the photos different sizes just as Billboard does because I think that gives a better eye catching effect than having all pictures the same size.
