Comparison to Preliminary Task

There is a huge difference between my preliminary task and my final front cover, I think that I have come along way in the small amount of time that I had between each task. I became more confident with the programmes i had to use during my final task, I felt that I could experiment with what I was doing and I put a lot of effort into the programmes that I used so that I could make my final page exactly how i wanted it.

On my preliminary I didn't plan anything I wrote on the front, anything that came into my head that would associate with a female sixth former I just put it on there however everything i wrote on my final product I planned completely on all three pages not just my front cover.

Both of these products are targeted at the same audience yet you wouldn't think it to look at them, they are both aimed at teenage girls, pop music and incorporating fashion too.

When trying to find my perfect masthead and fonts for my final piece I did a lot of primary research.

However for my preliminary I didn't get any information from anyone other than myself, I chose the font I liked the most so there was no evidence that audience would find it attractive or fitting to my magazine.

I am very happy with the outcome of my pages and I think the development from my preliminary task is a large difference.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For my front cover image I felt that the whole picture was perfect but it was a little bit dull and slightly darker than what I wanted so on photo shop I edited the shadowing and also the lighting just to make it slightly lighter which also made my models complexion better and the picture an even higher level of quality. I did all of this on Adobe Photoshop.

For my band photo and my other support artist I took away the background, I did this on photo shop by selecting the areas of the background and deleting them with the magic wand tool so there was no background left at all but only the picture of the main people them selves. For the band photo I felt that the fact that it was a dark image portrayed their type of artist very well so I didn’t do any editing to the lighting or anything else on the picture I just kept it how it was.
However on the photo of Justin, I felt that because it is a close up, it needed more than just the face and shoulders alone so I edited and shadow to come off of the back of him  to give the effect that the photo was taken in a studio or just up against a canvas, I did this on Adobe photoshop and then ever so slightly brightened the photo but made the contrast lower just to get the colour of his skin perfect.
Because of the fact I took all of my photos on a very high quality camera, many of the photos I wanted to use or investigate didn't actually need editing that much but I feel like even the few things that I did do have helped me come to terms with the use of photo shop and I now feel confident that I can use it and knowing what i can do and what each icon does. I found that on you tube there are tutorials of how to do certain things on certain programmes so they are really useful when using Adobe In-design and Adobe Photoshop.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?-Support Artists

The band Painting Gold are seen as two ordinary teenage boys, laid back not too overly confident just ordinary boys so I think they are perfect examples of teenage boys of today.

They are both dressed in skinny jeans with just normal tops on and they aren’t doing any extravagant poses or being too cocky in the way they look, they just look like two friends who love what they do. Considering they have already made it and are established artists, this is surprising because they would be stereotyped to be very self-confident and ignorant however they come across as the complete opposite and give a perfect representation of an ordinary teenage boy.

Justin Johnson however could give off a negative vibe, he is a new artist so you would expect him to keep it on the down low and maybe not be too confident yet or too outspoken however his photos are very bold and loud.

Close ups are a big thing in a magazine and his photo is a close up, he has a slight smirk on his face which makes him come across slightly too proud of himself and he looks like a very popular boy that knows hes got it. He will give off the ‘bad boy’ impression because of his baggy rain coat, slick hair, trainers and confident facial expressions and therefore girls will fall for him just as any new young pop celebrity would want but this will give off a negative representation of teenage boys and what they are like and there personalities.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?- Main Artist

My main artist Destiny Hope represents the fearless confident personalities that people are beginning to show off in our society today.

People that are in the spot light often feel as though they have to meet a certain criteria but it has been coming more familiar that people are going their own way and expressing who they are in whatever way they would prefer.

This isn't just for famous people this is for everyone in ordinary life, especially teenagers. There is a huge amount of pressure for teenagers to look or act a certain way in today’s society so I think that Destiny is representing a young girl who doesn't want to fit the mold but isn’t changing who she is because of it.

She is wearing rather raunchy clothes and standing in quite straight forward or slightly stern poses but her make-up and hair is somewhat plain considering. Her expression in all of the photos is very plain showing that she is serious about what she does and represents her social group as stern but not aggressive.

During the article Destiny speaks politely and informally which shows that the common stereotype of teenagers being rude and obnoxious is quite often false, also she is talking about a subject that she is passionate about and truly believes in whilst wanting to be a role model for younger people than herself so she is putting across a positive representation of young females.

Destiny could be seen as a bad representation because of her clothes and her look at such a young age, it could be seen as a bad role model or she’s too young to be acting as she does but she doesn’t do anything at all wrong and she is hard working and passionate with what she does therefore I think she is a good representation of what females aspire to in this society.
